Painting at China Camp

A month ago I wrote the following post on Nina’s facebook wall. I’m never on that platform anymore. I only keep the account open to post on Nina’s wall. I thought it might be nice to share that post here:

Hi mom! I can’t believe it’s been ten years since you moved on from the physical world. In honor of the anniversary I thought it would be fun to try out some of your painting supplies at China Camp.

I was excited to find one of your old paint palettes labeled “Landscape Colors”. To my surprise, and considerable delight, the paint’s were still somewhat wet! After 10+ years!!! They were a little rubbery so I blended them with some water and Golden’s “Open Thinner” and they sprung back to life! Magic paint!

I drove right past your old painting spot. It took me a minute to realize the tree you relied on for shade was cut down. I found some shade on the far side of the small hill, facing yours. I only had about 3 hours of light, so I’m glad I was able to “complete” a painting at all. It’s crazy how much the color tones can change in an instant when the sun dips in and out of the clouds. How did you handle it? I suppose I just need to paint faster.
